Home Inventory Checklist

One of the best ways to be prepared for a claim is to have a complete home inventory. The home inventory should detail the items, age, and cost of all the items in your home. Having this inventory can really speed things along for a claim simply by being able to provide the list to the adjuster. It’s also a great idea to take photos and/or a walkthrough video. Storing digital copies of the photos/video and the inventory in a cloud service is recommended in case your computer/laptop is one of the items destroyed or stolen.

Mansfield Insurance recommends that renters complete the home inventory as well. It’s often very surprising to think just how much you have to protect even if you do not own a home. For renters, a home inventory will showcase just how much they own and the stark reality of how much it would cost to replace everything they own. Renters also need to consider that their renter’s policy would also provide for loss of use coverage should they have to pay to stay elsewhere during repairs.
